Liverpool had goalkeeper Pepe Reina to thank as they drew 0-0 with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Pompey were given the chance to open the scoring after referee Mike Riley pointed to the spot following Alvaro Arbeloa’s tug on Kanu’s shirt.
The former Arsenal forward stepped up and took the penalty, but saw his effort saved by Reina.
Liverpool offered little in attack as they failed to score for the first time this season.
Chelsea also drew a blank as they failed to breakdown a stubborn Blackburn at Stamford Bridge.
Michael Essien and Andriy Shevchenko went close for the home side, while Salomon Kalou’s 57th minute strike was controversially ruled out.
Blackburn came close to earning a shock win, but Robbie Savage’s close-range effort was well saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Here’s how the rest of the Premier League fared on September 15 2007:
Birmingham 1 – Bolton 0
Sunderland 2 – Reading 1
West Ham 3 – Middlesbrough 0
Wigan 1 – Fulham 1
