Vad händer i grupp G

Men citatet:

”Terry? No problem, ready for Saturday. Ramires, Courtois… Everybody.”

Tottenham heroes past and present sat down to discuss the club’s chances of making the top four this season when Harry Kane admitted to Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle just why he’s confident Mauricio Pochettino’s young side can book their place in the Champions League for the first time since 2012.

Kane has cemented his place up front for Tottenham since his emergence on the scene last year and his eight Premier League goals for the team this season have played a crucial role in lifting Spurs into their current fifth-placed position in the table – just two points off Arsenal in fourth.

With Tottenham remaining unbeaten in the league since their opening day defeat to Manchester United, the club have demonstrated early on that they can challenge their north London rivals as well as the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Leicester City for a place in Europe’s elite competition next term.

And speaking to former Spurs manager and player Hoddle, Kane admitted he believes anything is possible for the squad this season – but insisted the players are only concentrating on the busy Christmas period first.

Speaking in an interview that features in BT Sport’s live coverage of Spurs v Chelsea, he said: ”The season’s wide open for anyone who can put a run together and take it by the scruff of the neck. But the main aim for us this season was to try and get top four.

”We’re obviously in a good position so far but come the new year, if we’re still up there then we can start thinking about that.”

When then asked if the atmosphere in the Spurs dressing room is good, Kane replied: ”It is, going undefeated like we have done since the first game of the season in the Premier League. We haven’t had many injuries. We don’t fear anyone. We press high up the pitch.

”We’ve pretty much outrun most teams this season which has been a vital part of our game.”

It was a difficult night for the striker, who worked his socks off, but he finally got his reward late on. The 22-year-old’s header was the simplest of finishes but it was no coincidence that he popped up with a pivotal contribution.

Introduced for Mason but missed a chance to edge ahead of his compatriot in the pecking order ahead of the Chelsea game.

Despite scoring 21 Premier League goals for Tottenham last term, Kane endured a run of going six top-flight games without a goal at the beginning of this season – which caused some to question whether he could repeat his heroics of last season.

The striker, though, opened his league account in the 4-1 win over Manchester City and has since found his form in front of goal.

Although he received criticism for failing to find the back of the net, Kane admittted he always remained confident in his abilities.

”Last season it was kind of new kid on the block, not a lot of people knew about my game. This season’s totally different. I noticed it from day one, with probably a couple extra defenders getting tight,” he said.

”I’ve always been quite confident in my ability. I knew if I didn’t score for a few games people were going to talk about that and compare to last season. But I always knew I had to keep doing things right and the rewards will come.”

Kane is expected to start when Tottenham host champions Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Sunday, with Spurs looking for their second London derby win on the bounce while Jose Mourinho’s side will be aiming to keep up their momentum following victories over Norwich City and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

And Kane revealed the Spurs players are fearless coming into the match and hopes the home crowd will spur the team onto a big win over the west London side.

”The confidence is sky high at the moment and we feel we can take on anyone,” he added.

”Chelsea won’t be looking forward to coming to White Hart Lane. We’ve had some great results there, the atmosphere will be electric the fans will be right behind us so it’s about taking the game to them and trying to get the win.”

Euro giants plot move for in-demand Chelsea star - report
Loic Remy is reportedly wanted by Turkish club Galatasaray (Picture: Getty Images)

Galatasaray are reportedly interested in the transfer of out-of-favour Chelsea striker Loic Remy, possibly on loan for the rest of this season.

The 28-year-old has not managed to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge, despite a strong scoring record with limited playing opportunities.

According to Sabah, this has led to interest from Galatasaray this January, with the Turkish giants on the lookout for additions up front.

Premier League clubs have also shown an interest in Remy, with Guus Hiddink angered by Aston Villa’s pursuit of the French goal-poacher.

The Bees took the midfielder on loan in October and he’ll now stay until the end of the season.

”It is great to have him as part of the squad for the rest of the season,” manager Dean Smith said.

Swift has made 15 appearances for Brentford, scoring three goals.

Top journalist says Man United are determined to sign major star in January
United are reportedly determined to sign Stones (Picture: Getty)

Manchester United will reportedly go all out to sign Everton defender John Stones in the January transfer window.

Stones, 21, was subject to several bids from Chelsea over the summer but the Toffees were determined to keep hold of one of their prized possessions.

However, the Red Devils are now set to test Everton’s resolve and are intent on bringing the centre-back to Old Trafford, according to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.

Bouhafsi is a respected journalist in France and broke the news that United had made a substantial offer to sign Anthony Martial in the summer.

Iconic superstar approached by Chelsea over era-defining transfer - report
Pogba could kickstart a new era at Stamford Bridge (Picture: Getty)

Chelsea have made another approach for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports.

The Blues were heavily linked with the Frenchman during the summer, but were unable to make any real headway with regards to a deal.

According to Calciomercato, though, they have again enquired about the midfielder’s availability, and have made him their priority target for next summer.

Chelsea’s squad is likely to undergo a major overhaul at the end of the season, with the current players failing to live up to the high standards they set for themselves last term.

Signing a player of Pogba’s quality would mark a new era at Stamford Bridge, and fans can expect the Blues to go all out in their pursuit of his signature.

Chelsea and Spurs set to offer 29m striker a Madrid escape in January - report
Martinez has struggled since joining Atletico. (Picture: Getty)

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are eyeing the potential January transfer of Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, according to reports.

Martinez, who was signed by Diego Simeone’s side for an eye-watering £29million from Porto in the summer, has failed to make a significant impact in Madrid with Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres receiving more game time.

The 29-year-old Colombian appears to be hamstrung by the pressures of a big-money transfer and has failed to replicate the outrageously impressive goalscoring form that saw him score 92 times in 132 appearances in Portugal.

Under Simeone at Atletico the forward has only found the net three times in 12 appearances and, according to the Mirror, the fiery manager is willing to allow Martinez a loan deal to the Premier League in January to prove his worth.

Reports also suggest that the player would jump at the chance to gain regular playing time with both London clubs Chelsea and Spurs keen to battle it out.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Courtois – Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta – Matic, Fabregas – Pedro, Willian, Hazard – Costa

Watford  (4-4-1-1): Gomes – Nyom, Holebas, Britos, Cathcart – Watson, Capoue, Jurado, Abdi –  Deeney – Ighalo

Steven Fletcher (Scotland and Sunderland)

A surprise selection perhaps but you’ll find that every other leading striker from Europe in the Premier League will be hoping to fire their country to glory at Euro 2016.

Scotland and Steven Fletcher will not fall into that category. They were close but yet again, they narrowly missed out on a major tournament.

This is a painful one for Scots if you consider that every other home nation – England, Wales and Northern Ireland – and the Republic of Ireland have all made the finals in France.

Scotland lost in Georgia towards the end of their campaign and they finished three points shy of Ireland in the play-off spot.

Fletcher divides opinions in Sunderland but there’s no doubting his quality when he’s in the mood and he scored a stunning curler to give Scotland a 2-1 lead against Poland in October, when qualification hopes were still alive, before the Poles equalised in stoppage time to break Scottish hearts.

Best Premier League XI who will miss Euro 2016: Schmeichel; Janmaat, Ivanovic, Blind, Kolarov; Wijnaldum, Matic, Eriksen, Tadic; Depay, Fletcher.

A source close to Simeone told The Telegraph that he is extremely happy at Atlético and will only consider quitting Spain for Chelsea if all of his conditions are met. The final say over all incoming transfers would be a “non-negotiable”.

Emenalo plays a big role in Chelsea’s transfer business and Mourinho even admitted he had nothing to do with the summer signing of central defender Papy Djilobodji.

Abramovich essentially backed Emenalo over Mourinho by not signing any of the big-name outfield stars the Portuguese wanted in the summer, other than Radamel Falcao on loan, and then holding the 52-year-old to account for the abysmal Premier League title defence.

Falcao was the only signing who was purely Mourinh’s

With no permanent manager at Chelsea, Emenalo will take sole charge of the club’s January transfer window plans and chase targets such as Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira.

But Simeone would not stand for any Emenalo signings in the mould of Djilobodji or Michael Hector, who was immediately loaned back to Championship club Reading.

Simeone works closely with Atlético sporting director José Luis Caminero but retains the final say and right of veto over any incoming signings and the 45-year-old would not be prepared to give that up.

That would put Abramovich in the tricky position of either having to choose between Emenalo and Simeone, or attempting to negotiate some sort of compromise that suits both parties.

If Abramovich refuses Simeone’s demands, or cannot convince Guardiola to snub Manchester City, he would turn his attention to Italy coach Antonio Conte or Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Chelsea are interested in buying Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and so, tentatively, are Manchester City

Hiring Simeone would be an expensive process. The former midfielder earns £4.4  million net at Atlético and his buy-out clause, which would have to be met, is just under £15 million.

Abramovich would also have to make big funds available to Simeone, who would want the freedom to make major changes to the first-team squad.

Although he has previously shown an interest in managing in the Premier League, Simeone does not speak English.

Peter Kenyon, the former Chelsea chief executive, could play a major part in any negotiations between the Blues and Atlético, as he is an official adviser to the Spanish club’s board.

Hiddink held a low-key first full training session yesterday, as he discussed the remaining targets for the season in a 3pm team meeting and then put the Chelsea squad through their paces with assistants Steve Holland and Eddie Newton. After Watford, Chelsea face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Dec 28.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Vitesse Arnhem have been cleared of having an improper relationship by the Dutch football association.

The independent probe established no undue influence by Chelsea over the Dutch club, to whom they have been regularly loaning players over the past five years, following allegations by former owner Merab Jordania that Chelsea heavily influenced policy at the club.

Van Gaal said: “What I can say, it [Mourinho’s departure] was a big surprise for me, I didn’t expect that that.

“He is a fantastic manager with a record that nobody has in this football world.

“But it is still possible. The main thing is always, of course, the results and second the chemistry between the players and the manager and his staff.

“I cannot judge what was happening at Chelsea but I was very surprised.”

Jose Mourinho was Louis van Gaal’s assistant at Barcelona

Van Gaal, who insisted that the chemistry between himself and his players remains fine, added: “I have the full confidence of my board and my players, I feel.

“But we have to get results, we have to win, we know that – the players know it, I know it and my staff know it.

“We have to win because when you lose too much it’s the end of the world for me also.”

Wayne Rooney returned to full training this week

Fourth-placed United are at home to Norwich tomorrow when captain Wayne Rooney is expected to return from a three-match injury absence with an ankle problem to make his 300th appearance for the club.

“I hope when he plays he scores a goal because it is a big day for him because it’s his 500th game. Not too many players have reached that record,”

Möte under eftermiddagen

Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Matt Miazga (Picture: Getty Images)

Chelsea are reportedly set to secure the transfer of New York Red Bulls’ Matt Miazga by the end of the week.

Miazga, who has made 46 appearances for the MLS outfit, is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal were all understood to be interested in the defender, but the Blues will seal a move in the coming days, according to the Daily Mail.

Miazga recently stated: ‘The English Premier League is a very intriguing proposition for me. There is a lot of passion involved; hopefully one day I will have the opportunity to play there.’

And now it’s believed Chelsea are closing in on a £3.5million deal for the United States international.

According to the Daily Mail, chiefs were last night finalising a loan move for the 26-year-old Brazilian.

The Premier League title holders have turned to Pato in a bid to boost their attacking options with Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy’s futures in doubt.

Pato made his name at AC Milan but injuries and loss of form prompted him to return to Brazil three years ago.

He returned to form by bagging 26 goals on loan at Sao Paulo last season and indicated that he fancied a Premier League switch.

”Of course he’s a very important player for us, but we can’t hold him here with chains.”
