Did Adidas just accidentally reveal Chelsea have hijacked Arsenal's Mahrez deal?
Riyad Mahrez could leave Leicester City this summer (Picture: Getty)

German sportswear giants Adidas were left red-faced today after an eagle-eyed Chelsea fan spotted no.7 Riyad Mahrez shirts being sold on the brand’s official website.

The Leicester City ace has been the subject of interest from Arsenal in recent days, with the Gunners believed to have held talks with the Algerian over a move to the Emirates.

The 25-year-old was crowned PFA Player of the Year after inspiring Leicester City to their first league title in their 132-year history but Claudio Ranieri insisted the winger would be staying with the Premier League champions yesterday.

Antonio Conte’s side have already stole one star from Leicester’s title-winning side after the signing of N’Golo Kante and one Blues fan (@Chelseaolic) claimed to have spotted Mahrez no.7 Chelsea shirts for sale on Adidas’s website today.

The option to buy Mahrez no.7 shirts has since been removed but it wouldn’t be the first time the brand has let big transfer news slip after Henrikh Mkhitaryan Manchester United shirts went on sale a week before the winger’s move to Old Trafford last month.

Brilliant striker desperate to join Chelsea to complete unfinished business

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly determined to join Chelsea in an effort to prove himself at the club.

The 23-year-old believes he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge after failing to make an impact in a three-year spell between 2011 and 2014.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Belgian believes a move to the Londoners is still possible, even though they have already signed international teammate and fellow forward Michy Batshuayi.

Lukaku managed 25 goals in 46 appearances for the Toffees last season, but was unable to hit the back of the net for the final ten games of the campaign – which played a part in manager Roberto Martinez’s eventual sacking.

Chelsea have also reportedly told Benfica they will pay the £23m release clause for Sweden defender Victor Lindelof, 22.

The versatile Lindelof, who can play right-back or centre back, has made just 16 league appearances in three years at Benfica.

Antonio Conte believes all of the managers he worked with as a player, including former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, will influence the tactics he employs in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea endured a disastrous title defence last term, which culminated in Jose Mourinho’s departure and a disappointing 10th place finish in the Premier League.

But Conte is determined to lead the club back into the Champions League places and restore the fans’ faith in their team after they fell well below the standards the Stamford Bridge crowd have come to expect.

The formation Conte will set his team up in remains a matter of debate, with some suggesting the former Italian coach will implement the 3-5-2 formation that served him well with both Juventus and the Azzurri.

A 4-4-2 set up is another option open to Conte with new signing Michy Batshuayi thriving in pre-season ahead of a potentially promising partnership with Diego Costa.

Conte has remained coy on his long-term plans but believes he can call upon the lessons learned from several managerial greats as he attempts to settle on his own style.

”I had fantastic managers in my career,” he told Chelsea TV. [Marcello ] Lippi, [Arrigo] Sacchi, [Carlo] Ancelotti, [Giovanni] Trapatoni.

”Every one of them gave me something. It’s very important. The tactical ideas are mine. I developed these in offensive situations.

”I maintain a lot of teachings of these fantastic managers. I bring with me a part of them,” Conte insisted.

Several of Conte’s players have already been full of praise for their manager’s tactical training sessions but the 61-year-old is adamant team spirit, rather than the introduction specific formations, will help his team improve.

”Three at the back, four at the back – it’s not important.

”What is important is the right spirit in the team and to give good organisation and good training on tactical and physical aspects. I think I can improve my players a lot,” he added.

Chelsea defender fires ultimatum to Antonio Conte

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen insists he wants first-team football if he is to return to Stamford Bridge.

The Denmark international has shone on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, who had a bid rejected for the centre-back this summer.

Christensen will now spend a second season on loan with the Bundesliga giants, and insists he only wants to play for the Blues if he is to be a first-team regular with the club.

‘The main thing is, to play. That’s the main thing that I want for my future,’ the youngster told Goal.

‘It is all about playing football and that’s it. [Playing at Chelsea] That is an ambition of mine, to play over there in the first team but right now I am not thinking about the future.

‘I am not thinking about Chelsea and what they are doing and what I am doing. I am focusing on what Borussia is doing. I am just really looking forward to playing games and hopefully qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League.’

And the Italian is now weighing up a third offer, having reportedly baulked at Everton’s mammoth valuation of Romelu Lukaku.

But he will have to pay big to land the Spain international with Real holding out for a cool £67m, according to the Mirror.

The Spanish giants are said to be in no great rush to sell Morata, especially as they seemingly no longer have to fund a move for Paul Pogba.

Chelsea transfer target Romelu Lukaku has taken some time out to relax with Paul Pogba in Miami ahead of the new Premier League season.

Both players were in action during the latter stages of Euro 2016 and have been afforded additional time off by Everton and Juventus respectively.

Lukaku’s future has been a constant source of speculation during the close season and Standard Sport understands he is still on the Blues’ radar after the club’s second bid for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata fell short.

Antonio Conte’s side are expected to return with a third proposal for Madrid to consider but are now looking to make a £50m bid for Lukaku, whom they sold to the Toffees in 2014.

The 23-year-old scored 18 Premier League goals last season and has proved that he’s also comfortable on the basketball court as well as a football pitch.

Lukaku posted a video on his official Instagram page enjoying a spot of one-on-one with friend and Manchester United target Pogba.

The France midfielder is reportedly on the verge of a move to Old Trafford, but his agent Mino Raiola has dismissed such a suggestion as simply ”bla, bla, bla”.

And Pogba appears to be at ease about the situation, telling his followers on the social media platform: ”I’m on annual leave, chilling a bit, let’s enjoy some summer before it ends.”

Chelsea have offered £50m for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

Gianluca di Marzio claim the Blues slapped down the bid for the Belgian hitman yesterday.

Chelsea sold Lukaku to Everton for £28m in 2014.

He’s gone on to become one of the Premier League’s most lethal finishers since moving to Merseyside.

And according to Di Marzio’s report, the west Londoners are ready to spend big to get him back at Stamford Bridge.

Nemanja Matic will become Juventus’ number one transfer target if Paul Pogba joins Manchester United.

United are thought to be closing in on a £100million deal for Pogba after reports in Italy claimed he had told the Italian champions he wanted to leave the club.

And should that deal go through, Goal say Juventus will aim to bring Matic to Turin as a replacement.

The Serbian struggled last season but remains a highly rated midfielder.

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/691502/-

Kurt Zouma says it is an ’unbelievable feeling’ to be back training with his Chelsea team-mates, and is determined to help new coach Antonio Conte build a ’strong team spirit.’

Zouma’s 2015/16 season ended prematurely when he landed awkwardly in February’s draw with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, sustaining an ACL injury in the process.

The Frenchman’s injury was initially expected to keep him sidelined for six months, but the 21-year-old last month suggested a return to action before the end of 2016 was more realistic.

The young defender returned to the pitch with his Blues team-mates on Monday for the first time since his injury, completing a short spell of ball work in pre-season training in Austria.

Conte – who joined the Blues after exiting as Italy coach this summer – is keen for Zouma to take his time and not rush back, but the centre-back is delighted to be on the comeback trail ahead of the new campaign.

”It was so good to be with the squad, an unbelievable feeling,’ Zouma told the club’s official website. ‘I’ve been working alone for a while and now I’m training, learning and improving with the guys.

”When you’re coming back from injury that’s all you want to do so I’m very happy. I’m working hard every day.

”I didn’t know I would be back on the training pitch by now, I thought it would be a bit later. But my knee is okay and I don’t have any pain, which is great.”

Zouma also thanked Conte for taking him on the pre-season tour despite not being available for match action, saying: ”I’m really pleased about that. He’s brought me on the tour so I’m really happy.

”He’s a good guy and a very good manager. We are working hard with him and he wants to create a strong team spirit in the group.

”He has a lot of quality. He has new ideas so we all need to watch him and be aware of what he wants from us.”

Asked about when he could make a return to first-team action, Zouma added: ”I don’t know, I will need to discuss that with the manager and the medical team.

”I’m not fit enough yet but hopefully in six weeks or a couple of months I will be, we will have to wait and see.

”It’s been really hard but if you’re strong mentally you can do anything. It’s football, lots of players have had big injuries and been out for a while.

”It’s important to stay positive in your mind and say to yourself: ’Okay, I’ve been unlucky to get a bad injury but I will come back stronger.’ You have to be determined.

  • 2/7

    John Terry

When the 35-year-old former England star was given a new contract in May, he was warned he would no longer be first choice at centre-half.

Terry, however, is determined to show to Conte he can still play at the highest level regularly.

He did his own intense individual training sessions over the summer and is set to start his second match in five days.

Crucially, Terry is one step ahead of potential rivals for a first-team place. The club have still to sign the centre-half they crave, Kurt Zouma is working his way back to fitness after a serious knee injury and Gary Cahill is playing catch-up following his break after Euro 2016. A strong showing this evening will do Terry’s cause of facing West Ham no harm at all.

    Matej Divizna/Getty Images

  • 3/7

    Diego Costa

The Spain international has been the subject of much interest from former club Atletico Madrid for months and needs to demonstrate the transfer speculation has not had a negative effect.

Chelsea have told Atletico the striker is not for sale and while he is content to stay, Costa still has to convince he is committed to the cause.
A year ago he returned to pre-season training overweight and lacking sharpness. It took him months to get back to his best and came too late to save a woeful League campaign.

Conte is looking to start Costa up front when the season kicks-off but he will want his forward to start scoring goals now so the Spaniard is confident and ready to go from the outset.

    Matej Divizna/Getty Images

  • 4/7

    Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Conte was the manager who helped a young Paul Pogba fulfil his potential at Juventus and Loftus-Cheek is desperate to follow suit.

The 20-year-old Academy product made 17 appearances for the first team last term but knows he must stand out over the next few weeks to have a hope of becoming a regular.

Loftus-Cheek failed to do that playing in the No.10 role against Rapid Vienna and was substituted at half-time. He cannot afford a repeat of that performance tonight.

The talent is clearly there. After all, he was named the best player in the Toulon tournament in May after helping England Under-21s win it for the first time in 22 years.

    GLYN KIRK/AFP/Getty Images

  • 5/7

    Oscar

The perennial underachiever has once again been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge during the summer.

Oscar has flattered to deceive in a Chelsea shirt since joining in 2012 from Internacional and many of the club’s supporters are running out of patience with him.

A big-money offer from elsewhere may tempt the Blues to cash in before the transfer deadline, so Oscar could do with getting Conte onside.

After being left out of Brazil’s Copa America squad, Oscar has had a rare summer off so should be fully refreshed.

Tiredness, caused by an intense fixture schedule for club and country, has been used as a reason for his tendency to fade badly during previous campaigns. A similar excuse cannot be used for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder this time around.

    Matej Divizna/Getty Images

  • 6/7

    Nemanja Matic

As has been shown by the £32m signing of N’Golo Kante from Leicester City, Conte is looking to improve Chelsea’s midfield.

Kante has yet to join up with his new team-mates and his arrival will mean increased competition for places in the middle of the pitch.

The suspicion is Conte will consider employing another ball-winning player alongside France international Kante to help protect the back four.

It was a position Matic performed well in a blue shirt for 18 months only to suffer an alarming dip in form last term.

Many people who saw his lack of celebration after scoring in the 3-2 defeat against Sunderland in May speculated whether he could be leaving Stamford Bridge.

Juventus and Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing the 27-year-old Serbia international but any sign that Matic is getting back to his best will be a major boost for Conte’s plans.

    Matej Divizna/Getty Images

  • 7/7

    Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic’s attempts to impress Conte could not have got off to a worse start against Rapid Vienna.

After suffering his worst season at Chelsea last term, he made the kind of sloppy error to gift the Austrian club a second goal that was indicative of his play over the previous 12 months.

Chelsea’s vice-captain never recovered from a poor pre-season a year ago and perhaps his greatest challenge is winning back the trust of the fans. His mistake four days ago again provoked angry responses on social media, with many people suggesting he should no longer be in the side.

Conte is unlikely to dispense with such an experienced player, although Ivanovic’s position at right-back could come under threat if the new boss opts to play three central defenders.

Ivanovic could take one of those central berths but Conte favours fast wing-backs to help in attack, which is one of the reasons why he’s brought back Juan Cuadrado from a loan at Juventus.

    Matej Divizna/Getty Images

”I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to be negative, I always try to be positive and have a laugh and joke with the guys and my family.

”I watched the Euros on TV with my family and there were a few days when I went out but generally I’ve just been working hard to get fit.”

Antonio Conte insists he has seen plenty of promising signs from his Chelsea squad.

Newly-appointed Conte is just under a week into the job as Blues boss after taking training for the first time last Wednesday.

He has been trying to get his players used to his new methods which could include a bold 4-2-4 formation — as illustrated by a tactics sheet discovered following his first game in charge, a 2-0 defeat to Rapid Vienna on Saturday.

Ahead of the second match of the current pre-season trip to Austria, against RZ Pellets on Wednesday, the Italian said: “I find the players with the right attitude, right behaviour and great work.

”This is very important.

Conte is installing the way he wants Chelsea to play during pre-season in Austria

“And it is important to have a bit of time for me to get to know the players and the players to know me and my staff but in this week I am very happy because I see a lot of positive things.”

Conte was expected to set Chelsea up with the same 3-5-2 approach he favoured with Juventus and Italy, but – as we first revealed back in April – he appears to be working on an even more radical, attacking plan.

Pictures of his tactical masterplan suggest Conte is planning to line Chelsea up with a flat back four, just two central midfielders and a front four where two wingers push on to support two strikers.

CEN
Chelsea boss Antonio Contes tactical plans for Premier League success

Several of the names will change from Saturday’s match, but what about the formation?

The two central midfielders will have to get through plenty of work to make the system effective.

But that perhaps goes some way to explaining why Conte was so desperate to land tireless midfielder N’Golo Kante , who caught the eye last season with his ability to cover ground, from Leicester for £30m.

Plumb Images

New signing Kante will certainly earn his money if Chelsea do switch to a 4-2-4 formation

The 46-year-old, whose plans for attacking corners and players’ nutrition were also pictured, wants to further bolster his front-line to give him enough options to play with two strikers.

He has brought in £33m Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, hasn’t yet given up on Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and is determined to keep hold of Diego Costa, who is a target for his previous club Atletico Madrid.

The new regime is a SHAKE up for the Chelsea players in more ways than one

Conte said: ”For me, Diego Costa is a fantastic player a striker who is one of the best in the world.

”And we are Chelsea and Chelsea is one of the best clubs in the world.

”For this reason I think that Diego Costa must stay in one of the best teams in the world and Chelsea is this club.

Chelsea are going to need plenty of strikers and Conte intends to hang onto Costa

”I see him that he is very happy and I don’t know the other situation.

”I know Diego Costa is Chelsea’s player and I am very happy for him to stay here to train him and the other players.”

His side fell to a 2-0 defeat in their last game against Rapid Vienna.

But the new Stamford Bridge boss isn’t expected to make big changes for this encounter.

The Blues’ returning players are unlikely to be ready to feature due to lack of match fitness.

So who could Conte field for the clash?

Chelsea signing Michy Batshuayi has joined up with his new team-mates for the first time following his move from Marseille.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Blues earlier this month before taking a brief break after competing at Euro 2016 with the Belgium national side.

Batshuayi was absent as Chelsea lost their pre-season opener 2-0 to Rapid Vienna on Saturday, but speaking after the game Antonio Conte confirmed the £33.1million addition was poised to return to training ahead of their next friendly.

Conte’s men will face Austrian club Wolfsberger AC on Wednesday as they step up preparations for the new Premier League season and Batshuayi was put through his paces as the Italian took training in Austria on Monday.

A message on Chelsea’s official Twitter account read: ”Our new signing Michy Batshuayi has joined up with the squad for training today.”

The Belgium international scored 17 Ligue 1 goals in 32 starts for Marseille last term before scoring from the bench in Belgium’s 4-0 victory over Hungary at the European Championships.

”Every game is difficult, you can never say you’ve won it before you’ve played it. I hope to stay in the Premier League if I leave, but I’m here at the moment at Swansea.”

Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is loving the new work ethic and discipline under Antonio Conte.

The Blues have just finished their first week under the Italian, ending it with a 2-0 defeat to Rapid Vienna.

‘It’s been a good, hard week with lots of training and it was nice to finish it off with a match and get the cobwebs off,’ the Bosnian told their official site.

‘We are buying into what the manager wants us to do. We are working hard to try and improve.

‘We’re working in a different way so it’s going to take a bit of time to process but so far so good, and I think over time we’ll get better.

‘He communicates very well, so he got his message across at half-time and before the game.

‘We expect to work hard, that’s part of pre-season. We’re trying to be very disciplined. The work ethic is very strong.

‘We’ve got some hard days ahead, we need to get our base fitness and it is something that will do us good in the long run. We’re enjoying the hard work.’

With training going well, the Londoners will now have to hope that results come as they get used to their new manager’s methods.

What if?

TRANSFERKOLLEN

Juan Camilo Zuniga, Watford (+++).
