Callum Hudson-Odoi and Nick Pope are set to start for England in Kosovo
Callum Hudson-Odoi and Nick Pope are set to start for England in Kosovo

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Nick Pope will start for England against Kosovo in their final European Qualifier, Sky Sports News understands.

Pope earns his first England start, after the Burnley goalkeeper was first called up in March 2018, while Chelsea winger Hudson-Odoi makes only his second start as Gareth Southgate explores his squad options.

Southgate could make further changes for the final European Qualifier at the Pristina City Stadium on Sunday with James Maddison a doubt with a minor calf strain and John Stones set to be rested.

It means Tyrone Mings is likely to win only his second England cap alongside Harry Maguire, though Fikayo Tomori is also pushing for his England debut, and could feature at some stage.

The trip to Kosovo gives Southgate a chance to look at some other players in his squad with only a few games remaining before Euro 2020 gets under way.

Maddison, who came on as a substitute against Montenegro for his maiden England cap, had looked set for his first start.

But a minor calf strain could see him on the bench again or miss out altogether, with the Leicester midfielder set to undergo a late fitness test before the game.

Stones could be rested. It is understood Southgate and Manchester City are wary of his workload after only recently returning from injury.

Mings played the entirety of the 6-0 away win against Bulgaria last month and impressed in very difficult circumstances. He was replaced by Stones at centre-back against Montenegro but could be set for a return on Sunday, possibly patterned by Chelsea defender Tomori.

Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford could also be given a rest with Tammy Abraham – who scored his first senior international goal in the 7-0 win against Montenegro – and Callum Wilson waiting in the wings for their chance up front.

Mateo Kovacic has hailed Frank Lampard’s leadership skills following a fine start to life as Chelsea manager.

Lampard’s reign got off to a rocky start on the opening day of the Premier League season with a 4-0 defeat at Manchester United, but the Blues have rallied since then to collect eight wins from their opening 12 games.

Chelsea now sit third in the table – a point ahead of champions Manchester City – while Lampard has won plaudits for blooding in a number of academy graduates, with Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount making their mark as regular starters.

Given Lampard’s hero status as the club’s all-time top goalscorer, and with the club currently dealing with a Fifa transfer ban, the 41-year-old was always likely to have been an extended grace period with the 2019/20 season viewed as a transition year for the club.

However, such an impressive start is no surprise to midfielder Kovacic, who sees Lampard’s potential to become a top coach up close in training every day.

Regarding Lampard’s start, Kovacic told the club’s website: ”It’s been nice, nice of course. Now I see why he was such a great player. His mentality is really strong.

”That’s what he wants to bring to us: to have a strong mentality, a winning mentality. He always won a lot of trophies.

”He has a great connection with every player. He is a great guy, he likes to joke, he likes to laugh. He’s the perfect teacher for us.

”We need to learn from him, and for now we are enjoying it, he is as well enjoying it, so it’s a nice connection.

‘Now the moment is good, when the tough moments come it will be a test for us and for him, but we need to keep training as we are doing.

”We are working really hard. Four months he has been here, and every training was hard, and that’s important being at such a great club like Chelsea.”

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Fikayo Tomori, Reece James and Mason Mount have all been afforded regular game time this term.

And Johnson, who was a team-mate of Lampard’s at Chelsea, has said that he saw the natural coaching instinct in the former midfielder from early on in his career.

He exclusively told Express Sport: “Yeah he always had that coaching instinct, after games, talking to coaches, speaking tactics so I always thought he’d be a manager one day, definitely.

“I was surprised he was given the Chelsea job so soon but I thought he was definitely destined for it in the future.

The winter transfer window is rolling into view and Premier League clubs are already readying themselves for a browse in the January sales.

Liverpool boast an eight-point lead and will likely leave any further business until the summer, but those in the chasing pack could move to reinforce their squads as they attempt to claw back the gap to the top.

Tottenham and Manchester United already sit a long way back in the race for the top four, while a number of the clubs languishing near the bottom could do with a shot in the arm in the form of new faces through the door.

Below, we round up the best of the transfer news, rumours and gossip as we look ahead to the January transfer window…

Manchester City players are increasingly convinced Germany international Leroy Sane will leave Etihad Stadium for Bayern Munich next year, according to The Telegraph. Bayern pursued Sane in the summer but City’s prohibitive valuation and an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in August combined to scupper the proposed transfer. Bayern are hopeful of securing Sane next summer for a sum significantly smaller than the £137million suggested in August.

Manchester United are considering making a sensational January swoop for England international Jadon Sancho, according to The Guardian. Sancho was substituted in the 36th minute of their crunch Bundesliga title clash with Bayern Munich earlier this month, with manager Lucien Favre confirming the move was tactical after the game. The 19-year-old was also dropped and fined after reporting back late from international duty in October.

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has warned Sancho he would be ”crazy” to join Manchester United, instead advising him to move to Anfield.

“I think he’s crazy if he goes to Man United,” Nicol told ESPN.

“We’re talking about he’s struggling in a team that’s struggling [Dortmund] – Man United are going to be struggling for a couple of seasons, so I would stay away from there.”

asked where he should go, Nicol added: “Well if I was advising him, let me put it that way, I would like to see him at Liverpool.”

Manchester City have added Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu to their shortlist as they consider a number of centre-back options, according to Sky Sports. City failed to sign a replacement for Vincent Kompany in the summer and have been struck by a number of defensive injuries in the early part of the campaign. Evans has been a long-term target for Pep Guardiola, who was keen to sign him when he joined Leicester from West Brom in 2018.

Dani Ceballos will refuse to return to Real Madrid while ZInedine Zidane is manager at the Bernabeu, according to AS. Ceballos joined the Gunners on a season-long loan in the summer after failing to nail down a regular spot in Zidane’s team. The 23-year-old has previously hinted that he sees his future at Real Madrid, but it would seem the midfielder is now having second thoughts about heading back to Madrid at the end of the season. Arsenal do not have an option to buy Ceballos.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are considering a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports in Spain. Spanish publication El Desmarque claims Zidane and club president Florentino Perez are keeping tabs on the Chelsea youngster. Hudson-Odoi signed a new five-year deal with Chelsea in September.

Manchester United are set to alter their January plans and launch a bid for Erling Haaland in January, according to ESPN. United are keeping tabs on the Red Bull Salzburg striker but fear waiting until next summer could scupper their chances of signing him as the 19-year-old continues to capture the attention of Europe’s elite with his breathtaking hot streak. The 19-year-old has scored 26 goals in 18 games, netting seven in four Champions League group matches and United also fear that waiting will only drive his price up.

Reece James is set to make a further step at international level on Friday night as he makes his bow for Aidy Boothroyd’s England side in the Euro Under-21 qualifier in Albania.

The 19-year-old is one of the many beneficiaries of Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s faith in youth this season.

The right-back scored his first Champions League goal in the 4-4 draw with Ajax earlier in November before being handed a first Premier League start for the visit of Crystal Palace four days later.

With Chelsea players an increasing presence within England camps, five were named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this month’s games, James will be looking to force his way into the senior picture with an impressive showing at youth level.

”It’s great getting my first chance in the Premier League,” said James. ”Scoring in the Champions League was fantastic. It is what I’d dreamed of.

”There is a great atmosphere in this England changing room. I grew up with a lot of the players and we have gelled well.”

England face Albania in Shkoder looking to keep their place at the top of qualifying Group C.

Boothroyd, however, will have to do without Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, who is recovering from an abdominal injury at his loan club Leeds. The striker has scored six goals in four outings for the Young Lions this season.

Kurt Zouma says Olivier Giroud is working hard in training despite being ‘frustrated’ by his lack of game time and still gives advice to Chelsea teammates Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi.

The French striker has only played four times in the Premier League this season – only one of which was from the start – and has featured for just 20 minutes in all competitions since September.

Manager Frank Lampard has instead preferred Abraham, who has 10 league goals already, while Batshuayi has been used as an impact sub ahead of Giroud.

The former Arsenal frontman, who is out of contract in the summer, has been linked with a January move away from Stamford Bridge with France boss Didier Deschamps warning him that he needs to be playing in the run-up to Euro 2020.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Giroud’s future and his lack of game time, Zouma has praised his reaction and says he has been a model professional.

‘He is frustrated, he wants to play more,’ Zouma told Canal+. ‘Like any football player, he wants to be on the pitch, but he is taking everything very calmly.

‘He is a professional, he works hard in training. I have a lot of respect for the player he is.

‘As someone in the dressing room, he is someone who gives advice to Tammy and Michy.

  • Jadon Sancho admits Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was his inspiration growing up.

Sancho, 19, is set to start for England in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday night.

He has enjoyed a stunning rise in recent years after leaving Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho was born in south London and admits he always kept a close eye on Chelsea when he was growing up, in particular Lampard and teammate Didier Drogba.

”Ronaldinho was the main guy I used to watch on YouTube. But I liked Frank Lampard quite a lot and Didier Drogba when they were playing for Chelsea. They were the three players I looked up to,” he said.

Sancho admits he learned a lot of his tricks and ability from studying other players on YouTube.

”It was all about learning skills and expressing myself.

”I like adapting that to a real game. It makes defending harder because opponents don’t think you have those sort of skills.

”It gives you an advantage against some players and luckily enough it’s been working out for me.”

Sancho continues to be tipped to make a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United remaining interested.

He was withdrawn early on during Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend, leading to speculation over a rift with boss Lucien Favre.

Liverpool are now believed to have entered the race for the England star, with PSG and Real Madrid also keen.

  • Chelsea can inflict more pain on Manchester City, according to Paul Merson

Chelsea can inflict more pain on Manchester City, according to Paul Merson (Picture: Getty)

Paul Merson has warned Manchester City that Chelsea’s young guns could end their Premier League title defence.

A home clash against Frank Lampard’s in-form Blues awaits the defending champions following the conclusion of the international break.

Following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Anfield, Pep Guardiola’s side are currently nine points adrift of Liverpool and Merson says they cannot afford to slip further behind their title rivals.

Chelsea are currently above City in the Premier League and the Arsenal hero believes Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic can inflict further pain on Guardiola.

Discussing the title race, Merson told Sky Sports: ‘You have to remember that City have Chelsea at home next who are good going forward and you are talking about a team who are going to give you problems at the back with Abraham, Mount and Pulisic.

‘This is going to be a problem game and if they do not win that game and Liverpool win…

‘City have to get through their next six or seven games before they can be title contenders again. They have not got a good run, but if they win all of them and are still in the title race come Christmas, then I will go fair enough.’

Merson also says Liverpool have one hand on the Premier League title after their huge victory over City on Merseyside.

He added: ‘Liverpool have lost one game in the last 51 and they have played City three times in that time, so I just do not see them losing four or five games ’till the end of the season.

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web
    browser that

‘That is what they would have to lose as City would not be able to afford to lose any games if they only lost three.

‘So for me, I think it is Liverpool’s to throw away – if they do not win it this year, I cannot tell you when they will win it again.

‘I do not see City catching them, not with their defensive problems at the moment. They are just nowhere near good enough defensively.

‘I just think Liverpool are too good and I just do not see them getting beaten by any of the lesser teams.

‘And if they do, they have to score two or three goals, which is not going to happen.’

Before the international break, Chelsea beat London rivals Crystal Palace 2-0 at home to record their sixth successive Premier League victory.

Manchester City and Chelsea face off after the international break with both sides looking to cut into Liverpool’s Premier League dominance.

Liverpool beat Man City 3-1 at Anfield to head into the international break nine points ahead of the champions – a result which also allowed Chelsea and Leicester City to leapfrog Pep Guardiola’s side.

The champions now sit a lowly fourth by their standards, and cannot realistically afford any more defeats if they are to haul in Jurgen Klopp’s pace-setters.

As for Chelsea, Frank Lampard’s young squad are flying high and will be full of confidence heading to Etihad Stadium – and a win in Manchester would do little to dampen suggestions of an unlikely title challenge.

    Premier League preview

    Man City vs Chelsea
    Etihad Stadium
    Kick-off time: 5:30pm GMT, Saturday November 23

    Man City 2-1 Chelsea

Lampard’s Blues will fancy their chances of an upset at the Etihad. If they play the same aggressive pressing game as they did against Crystal Palace, Chelsea could cause Guardiola’s men serious problems.

However, Man City have scored 35 goals in 12 League games already, and a young Chelsea defence will be tested to the absolute limit.

Team news (heading into the international break)

Bernardo Silva will be suspended following a one-match ban he received over a tweet he sent about team-mate Benjamin Mendy. The Portuguese posted pictures of Mendy as a child alongside the mascot for Spanish confectionery firm Conguitos on September 22.

He immediately deleted it but was charged by the Football Association, which has now imposed a suspension, a £50,000 fine and ordered him to complete face-to-face education.

Guardiola will be hoping Ederson recovers from a thigh strain, though Leroy Sane, Aymeric Laporte and Aleks Zinchenko are out of action for the champions.

Christian Pulisic pulled out of international duty for the US due to a hip injury, though Chelsea are optimistic the forward will be available.

Chelsea also hope Ross Barkley will be back, while Jorginho is free to return after serving a suspension against Palace.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Antonio Rudiger are out, but are likely to be back by mid-December.

Head to head (H2H) results history

Chelsea edge this fixture with 67 wins to City’s 57, and 39 draws.

The teams met four times last season: City won the Community Shield 2-0; Chelsea then beat City 2-0 at the Bridge in the Premier League; Guardiola won the reverse fixture 6-0 at the Etihad, and then triumphed in the Carabo Cup final on penalties.

    Bötesbelopp i Chelsea

    • Försenad till möte: 500 pund per minut
    • Regelvidriga kläder under matchdag: 1 000 pund

  • The Chelsea fans comments come after Sarri told Sky Italia: ”We must thank Ronaldo because he made a sacrifice to be there at all tonight in a difficult situation. He did everything possible to play, but I saw he was not well and thought it best to take him off.

”It’s only natural a player is going to be irritated to leave the pitch, especially when he worked so hard to be there. Over the last month, he has had this little knee problem, he had a knock in training and it hurt the collateral ligament.

”When he trains at high intensity or plays, it unbalances him, so he ends up overcompensating and it damages the calf and thigh muscles. It is affecting his performances and he is not at his best at the moment.

”All players who are trying to give their best will have at least five minutes of being annoyed when they are substituted, but a coach would in general be much more worried if he didn’t seem upset.”

  • Frank Lampard guided Chelsea to a sixth consecutive win on Saturday
Frank Lampard guided Chelsea to a sixth consecutive win on Saturday

Frank Lampard has faced a number of obstacles since taking over at Chelsea – their transfer ban chief among them – but there was a new one to overcome against Crystal Palace on Saturday. For the first time, he had to start a Premier League game without Jorginho manning his midfield.

The Italian has put a difficult debut campaign firmly behind him this season, becoming a key figure under the new head coach – who has described him as a ”leader” within the dressing room – and playing 954 minutes of a possible 990 before his suspension for the meeting with Palace.

Fortunately for Lampard, his absence coincided with N’Golo Kante’s return from a groin injury. Kante replaced Jorginho alongside Mateo Kovacic on Saturday and duly helped Chelsea keep their first clean sheet in four games as they claimed a sixth consecutive Premier League win.

Lampard continued with the 4-2-3-1 formation that has served him so well in recent weeks, with Mason Mount continuing to impress at No 10 and Kante and Kovacic working in tandem behind him. How, though, will the midfield shape up when Jorginho is available too?

FREE TO WATCH: Highlights from Chelsea’s win against Crystal Palace

It presents a dilemma for Lampard – even more so given how seamlessly Kante slotted back into the side. On his first appearance since the 4-1 win over Southampton over a month ago, there was little evidence of rustiness.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Kante was his usual industrious self right from the start, popping up in Palace’s left-back position to press Patrick van Aanholt at one moment then seemingly teleporting himself to the opposite corner of the pitch, helping Chelsea win the ball back before making himself available to collect a Kurt Zouma pass at the base of midfield.

It was classic Kante. And while there were some rare signs of fatigue in the closing stages, the Premier League tracking data showed he covered more ground than any of his team-mates (11km), his perpetual motion underlined by the fact he clocked the highest average speed too.

N'Golo Kante impressed at Crystal Palace on Saturday N'Golo Kante impressed at Crystal Palace on Saturday

Kante’s best position was the subject of considerable debate last season, with Maurizio Sarri strongly criticised for preferring Jorginho at the base of midfield. But Lampard has persisted with the same approach.

On Friday, he said it was inaccurate to categorise Kante as a defensive midfielder. On Saturday, he gave him the freedom to roam up, down and across the pitch, taking it in turns with Kovacic to occupy the holding role. There was evidence of his improving technical qualities too.

In Jorginho’s absence, it was Kante who could be seen switching the play as Chelsea piled on the pressure in the first half. At one point, he used the outside of his boot to scoop a fine pass from right to left to find Christian Pulisic. By the end of the game, he had completed seven long passes out of seven – more than in his previous five appearances combined.

Is there anything he can’t do? Kante might have had a goal had his first-half effort not been blocked, and there was almost an assist in stoppage time, when his clever, diagonal pass into the Palace box found Michy Batshuayi, who turned and sent a deflected effort narrowly wide.

Lampard may decide to pair Kante with Jorginho after the international break, but if he is to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation he used again at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, that would mean dropping Kovacic.

Few Chelsea fans would have complained at that prospect at the start of the season, but the Croat looks liberated having struggled to exert himself under Sarri. His driving runs have added a different dimension to the midfield – no Chelsea player is averaging more dribbles this season – and his passing and positioning have been similarly impressive.

The alternative, then, is to revert to the 4-3-3 formation he used earlier in the season and a midfield which looks a lot like the one Sarri used last season, with Kante and Kovacic shuttling up and down the pitch either side of Jorginho, whose renaissance this season has made him undroppable.

The issue there, however, is that it would mean leaving out one of the players currently operating further forward in support of Tammy Abraham.

    So who makes way?

    November 23, 2019, 5:00pm

    Live on

There seems little prospect of him leaving out the in-form Willian, whose return to the starting line-up in September has coincided with the turnaround in their form. Pulisic, meanwhile, currently looks every bit like the Eden Hazard replacement many hoped he would be, scoring his fifth goal in his last three Premier League games on Saturday.

Could Mason Mount, then, be the man to miss out? He may not have stood out as much as Willian or Pulisic in recent games, but his importance to Lampard is evident in the fact that he has started every Premier League game so far, playing more minutes than any other outfield player and providing creativity as well as goal threat in his current guise as a No 10.

This is a good dilemma for Lampard to have, of course. His players are flying and Chelsea are feeling the benefits. But it is a dilemma nonetheless. He was able to adapt without his midfield anchor on Saturday against Palace. The next challenge will be to successfully recalibrate his midfield again.

Kurt Zouma has opened up about the tactics Chelsea employed to outclass high-flying Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Roy Hodgson’s Palace have enjoyed an impressive start the the season, and headed to west London with 15 points from their opening 11 games, and having conceded just 14 goals.

Saturday’s early kick-off had the air of a potential upset given Chelsea had conceded six goals in their previous two home games – a 2-1 Carabao Cup exit to Manchester United, and a thrilling 4-4 Champions League draw with Ajax.

Roy Hodgson will also have been confident given that Palace have taken points away at Manchester United ( a 2-1 win) and Arsenal (a 2-2 draw) already this term.

However, a back line of Zouma, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and Emerson Palmieri kept Palace at bay, with Frank Lampard’s Blues restricting the visitors to just one shot on target and 39 per cent possession.

Chelsea were worthy 2-0 winners in what was their sixth League victory in a row, and Zouma has credited Lampard’s aggressive tactics with nullifying the threat Palace have posed other top-six hopefuls.

”We were watching before the game how Crystal Palace like to sit back and make the game difficult for their opponents,” the defender told the club’s website.

”As soon as we lost the ball we tried to recover it quickly – that’s why we got yellow cards sometimes, because we tried to put high pressure all the time and we take risks sometimes.”

Regarding Chelsea’s teamwork and the strong bonds forming in a young squad, Zouma said: ”We’re working hard every day to get wins and this was the sixth one. We were patient, we scored two goals and didn’t concede any so we’re very happy.

”As a defender I’m very happy with the clean sheet and it’s really important for us to keep clean sheets, to keep that confidence high.

”It’s just about communication and working hard. You have to be in the right position at the right time, talk to your team-mate next to you, and do it all together. We did it well.”

Frank Lampard is planning to make Sergej Milinkovic-Savic his first signing if Chelsea’s appeal against their transfer ban is successful.

Officials at the club are understood to be confident the Court of Arbitration for Sport will reduce their punishment when they hear their appeal on November 20th.

They believe the ban will be downgraded to just one transfer window and, seeing as the Blues were unable to do any business in the summer, that would leave them free to spend in January.

Despite an excellent start to the season, which has left Lampard’s side third in the Premier League, the 41-year-old has hinted that he would like to add to his squad.

“Well, I’ll be very interested [in Chelsea’s appeal] of course but it is a legal matter and I don’t know enough of the legals to even delve,” he said.

”But of course I’m interested because it’s obviously going to affect potentially what we can do in January or not.

“We’re on a good run, though, aren’t we? I get that and it’s a nice feeling.

”Of course some players have come in and shown with their opportunities they’ve been given that they can do roles and play well.

”We are getting results at the moment.

“Listen, I think as Chelsea we will always look to improve in windows if we can, if we’re allowed to and if the players we might look at are better or we feel are worth adding to the squad.”

Now, according to the Mirror, Milinkovic-Savic is Lampard’s main target.

Chelsea could do with some reinforcements in midfield after injuries to N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Marco van Ginkel have left them overly reliant on Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount in recent weeks.

Milinkovic-Savic, who has long been linked with a move to one of Europe’s elite sides, could be the man they turn to.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has previously admitted they ”will not oppose” him leaving the club and Chelsea will certainly have the funds to sign the player after banking £90m from the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

    Vad ingår i uppdraget?

Chelsea: Kepa – James, Zouma, Tomori, Emerson – Kante, Kovacic – Mount, Willian, Pulisic – Abraham

Crystal Palace: Guaita – Ward, Tomkins, Cahill, Van Aanholt – Milivojevic, Kouyate, McArthur, Townsend, Zaha – Ayew

Callum Hudson-Odoi has admitted that the key factor behind his decision to stay at Chelsea and sign a long-term contract with the club was the arrival of Frank Lampard as manager.

The 19-year-old handed in a transfer request last January amid interest from Bayern Munich after struggling to hold down a regular first-team place under Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri.

Hudson-Odoi was entering the final year of his contract heading into this season but despite speculation linking him with a move elsewhere, he signed a five-year deal worth a reported £120,000 per week in September.

The England international has featured ten times under Lampard this term after recovering from a serious Achilles tendon injury and he praised his manager for placing trust in youth.

‘Him coming here is a big feeling for all of us because he was talking before about how he likes young players and I had an idea in my head that if he comes here it will be great for us,’ he told BT Sport.

‘As soon as he came I thought ‘yep this is it’. I had a few chats with him and thought this is perfect, I want to stay here.’

Lampard was unable to make any new signings during the summer due to Chelsea’s transfer ban but he replenished the squad with academy graduates, many of whom were on loan elsewhere last season.

It has worked out perfectly for Chelsea with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori establishing themselves as first-team regulars and Hudson-Odoi and Reece James also featuring prominently in recent weeks.

Chelsea’s Frank Lampard has won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for October.

The Blues boss scooped the honour on Friday after leading his side to three successive top-flight victories over Southampton, Newcastle and Burnley last month.

Chelsea also defeated Lille and Ajax in the Champions League in October, but were narrowly edged out by Manchester United in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had been seeking to win the award for the third month in succession, while Lampard – the first manager not named Klopp or Pep Guardiola to take the prize since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January – also saw off competition from Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith and Brighton chief Graham Potter.

Chelsea have carried their strong Premier League form into November, holding on for a narrow win at struggling Watford last weekend before contesting a dramatic 4-4 European draw against nine-man Ajax.

Lampard’s side, currently fourth and level with Leicester with a six-point buffer to Arsenal, host London rivals Crystal Palace in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Chelsea have won their last five Premier League matches

Kepa Arrizabalaga has said he is “very lucky” to work under Frank Lampard as he hailed the influence the club legend is having at Chelsea.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League after 11 games and are well placed to progress from their Champions League group in the first season of Lampard’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Arrizabalaga, who joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in a world record transfer for a goalkeeper in summer 2018, is confident the club record goalscorer’s experience will prove invaluable for the young squad.

”He is a coach that was, and he is a legend in the club,” Arrizabalaga said.

”He was a very important player during his football career.

”Now he is in his second year as a coach but he is sharing all his experience. Everything he knows about football, and everything he has lived, gave to Chelsea, and the titles he won with them like the Champions League, the Premier League and all the possible trophies.

Michael Ballack believes his former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard was destined to remain in the sport following his playing career

”I am very lucky to have him as a coach.”

Chelsea have only lost one of their last 10 games in all competitions and Arrizabalaga, who won the Europa League – his first major trophy – last season, said the team are in a ”positive dynamic”.

Christian Pulisic and Willian praise their side’s comeback and commended the team’s spirit from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 against Ajax in the Champions League

”Of course, there are a lot of things that we could improve, and we still must grow as a team,” the Spain international added.

”We are still at the beginning of the season, but we are enjoying, and we are feeling good on the pitch and that’s important for the team.”

Chelsea, who host Crystal Palace on Saturday, sit level on points with third-place Leicester ahead of the final game before the latest international break and the 25-year-old is adamant the club can have a say in the title race.

”It is truth that Liverpool and Manchester City had a better level than the rest of the teams and this season, we are fighting,” Arrizabalaga said.

”Currently we are in fourth position and obviously we want to get closer to them. We want to make things difficult for them and we are in that path.”
