For a while, it’s seemed as if Chelsea would need Champions League football in order to entice Havertz to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens.

But it’s recently emerged that the Blues are closing in on the signing of the Germany international – regardless of what happens in the final two Premier League matches of their season.

The Athletic have claimed Chelsea are currently locked in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal, but are confident they’ll get it done.

For Lampard, it will represent quite a coup.

Havertz is considered one of the best talents on his generation, having been in electric form for Leverkusen over the past 18 months.

In Germany, it’s easy to look good if you play for Bayern Munich. Or even Borussia Dortmund, despite the fact they haven’t won the Bundesliga title since 2012.
