Malinovskyi, 26, performances for Atalanta have been earning him rave reviews and he has impressed Blues legend Claude Makelele.

Makelele has been scouting for his former team-mate and he gave Malinovskyi a glowing report after watching him in international action last week.

Now the club will make further checks over the next few months and could make a move when their current two-window transfer ban ends in the summer.

Malinovskyi only moved to Italy in the summer after spending the last three-and-a-half years playing in Belgium for Genk after starting his career with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been praised for his performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The teenager set up Marcos Alonso for the only goal of the game in the second-half at Stamford Bridge to ensure the Blues fifth successive win in all competitions.

Hudson-Odoi has only just returned from a six month layoff after suffering an Achilles injury towards the end of last season.

But he is starting to reproduce the form he showed before the injury and is contributing in every game he is involved in.

The teenager has four assists and one goal in his seven appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season.

And in his three Premier League appearances he has bagged himself three assists.

He also scored twice for England Under-21s in the 5-1 win over Austria earlier in the week.

Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, pundit Alan Shearer singled out Hudson-Odoi for his all around display against the Magpies.

“Three Premier League appearances this season for Callum Hudson-Odoi and three assists,” Shearer said.

“Of course he had a terrible injury as well that he has come back from.

“He is just 18-years-old and can spray the ball around brilliantly, he is full of confidence.

“He can go left, right, outside or inside and everything Chelsea did today he was at the heart of it.

(Image: Chelsea FC via Getty Images)

“He was hugging the touchline and with his pace and drive he makes it very difficult for defenders.

“What a week it has been for him with two goals for England Under-21s as well, what a talent.”

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville was also in the BBC studio and praised Blues boss Frank Lampard for giving opportunities to his young players.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James and indeed Hudson-Odoi have all impressed this season.

“Chelsea look impressive and I love the fact that Lampard is giving young talent their chance,” Neville said.

“They are keeping experienced internationals out of the team at the moment.”

How can you look past Tammy Abraham to get on the scoresheet?

The England international is currently joint-top scorer alongside Sergio Aguero this season with eight goals from as many fixtures.

And when he scores – he scores in bundles.

Abraham, 22, has netted two braces and a hat-trick in the Premier League this season and I fancy him to fill his boots again.

Prediction: Tammy Abraham to score two or more. Priced at 12/5 with the pools.com.

08:45 UPDATE: Pulisic to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has ruled out sending Christian Pulisic out on loan.

“No,” was Lampard’s reply when asked if Pulisic could be loaned out. “With Christian he’s come to us in a big move, let’s make no mistake about it, and then he’s just turned 21 recently, and we’ve got a competitive squad here.

“I said it before the last game, I always have a problem who to pick and people make my decisions in training or how they’re playing, and at the minute with winning four on the bounce I need the edge of staying in the team and keep performing and everyone is the same.

“With Christian coming here, we have to protect him for that fact because he’s young. Christian, as with every player in the squad, needs to work hard in training, keep improving in training, see the direction we’re going, be a part of it, and show what you can do on a match day, and all the players are the same there.”

https://www.kkuriren.se/nyheter/chelsea-tar-emot-newcastle-sm5256523.aspx

1. Chelsea-Newcastle 1

1. Chelsea-Newcastle 1

2. Tottenham-Watford 1×2

3. Aston Villa-Brighton 1x

4. Bournemouth-Norwich 1

5. Leicester-Burnley 1

6. Wolverhampton-Southampton 1x

7. Crystal Palace-Manchester City 1×2

8. Leeds-Birmingham 1x

Chelsea will have Reece James available for the Premier League game with Newcastle at the weekend – but four senior stars are unlikely to feature.

Frank Lampard has been monitoring a number of first team players ahead of the visit of the Magpies on Saturday after several injury issues.

N’Golo Kante is set to miss out after pulling out of France’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Iceland last Friday with a groin problem.

Lampard is not likely to risk the midfielder in order to make sure he is ready for the trip to Ajax in the Champions League next week.

Elsewhere, Andreas Christensen and Mateo Kovacic are both doubts after they picked up injuries during the international break.

Christensen has had a scan on a hamstring injury and is unlikely to feature while Kovacic suffered a minor leg injury playing for Croatia.

The hope is that the midfielder will be able to feature in some part on Saturday, however.

Italy left-back Emerson is also nearing a return after missing the last few games and could play at Ajax.

Lampard has though been buoyed by the return to training of full-back James after he pulled out of the England Under-21s squad last week.

James is yet to start a Premier League game for Chelsea and could be handed the chance to impress against Steve Bruce’s side.

The Blues went into the international break in brilliant form after winning their last four matches in all competitions.

Premier League wins against Brighton and Southampton have catapulted the team into joint fourth place in the table.

And a win at Lille in the Champions League has boosted their chances of getting out of Group H after the opening day loss at home to Valencia.

They next face a double header with Dutch champions Ajax, with a trip to Amsterdam first on the agenda.

A win against Newcastle could potentially move the Blues up to second in the Premier League.

Last year’s Champions League campaign hid a lot of cracks in Tottenham’s season; this year’s has only served to expose them.

Effectively what we are seeing is the irrefutable decay of a squad that should have been recycled, reinvigorated, revitalised, a squad that has been allowed to drift into the footballing crisis it now finds itself in. Why a crisis? Because this team, judging by results, is not moving forward – they are at best standing still and at worst going backwards.

It is a situation that has occurred because different elements of the club have had different views on the strategy and pace needed to move forward. It has meant a lack of decisiveness in the transfer market and, by the time decisions on players have been made, it has often not been possible to implement the moves.

Former Everton defender Kurt Zouma will have been disappointed attempts to see him return to Goodison Park failed.

That is according to Danny Mills who praised the defensive solidity the Frenchman gave the Toffees alongside Michael Keane last season.

Chelsea though were not willing to make Zouma’s loan exit and permanent one as they battle on through a transfer ban.

The 24-year-old has made 11 appearances under Frank Lampard scoring the once as they settle in under their former player turned manager.

But when Mills was asked by Football Insider whether Zouma would be disappointed at his lack of a summer move he said: “Yeah, I think they had a settled way of playing last season.

”Defensively they were looking good and it hasn’t quite worked out for them so far this season.

“It happens, players move on. Players go on loan and they don’t come back so you always have to adjust accordingly. Good players get snapped up and move on, bad players get thrown out the door and move on.

(Image: GETTY)

“Unless you’re at an exceptional club like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, where you stay for a long period of time, it’s those players in the middle, those reliable players, who tend to stay the longest.”

Zouma played 36 times in all competitions for Marco Silva’s side last season as they recorded an eighth place finish.

Since arriving in west London five years ago Zouma has struggled to truly establish himself as a starter, although major injury problems have been a huge factor.

Currently he is battling with Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Timori and Antonio Rudiger for a place in the centre of Chelsea’s defence, but has been Lampard’s most used option.

Everton meanwhile have struggled to replace Zouma and conceded 13 goals in eight games as they sit in the bottom three.

Chelsea will hope Callum Hudson-Odoi can continue his fine form from in front of goal after netting a brace in Tuesday’s England Under-21s win over Austria.

The 18-year-old is in line to start against Newcastle as manager Frank Lampard waits to assess several Chelsea players who sustained problems during the international break

N’Golo Kante withdrew from the France squad after suffering an adductor muscle problem while Andreas Christensen picked up a groin injury while away with Denmark.

Mateo Kovacic was substituted at half-time in Croatia’s clash with Wales last weekend following a challenge from Ben Davies.

Antonio Rudiger could be in line for his first appearance since September 14 as he continues to work on overcoming a groin injury but Newcastle’s visit will come too soon for Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles).

Having secured an impressive 4-1 win at Southampton prior to the hiatus, Lampard may persist with the 4-3-3 system used on the south coast.

Although Mason Mount made his full England debut against the Czech Republic, he was reduced to a cameo role in Bulgaria while Tammy Abraham only played a handful of minutes in Prague and Fikayo Tomori was an unused substitute in both games.

Ross Barkley has been out of favour at Chelsea following an incident with a taxi driver during a night out in Liverpool, but confirmed his well-being with a brace in Sofia.

Chelsea possible XI (4-3-3): Kepa, Azpilicueta, Tomori, Zouma, Alonso; Barkley, Jorginho, Mount; Willian, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi.

Christian Pulisic was unhappy after being subbed in USA's defeat to Canada

Christian Pulisic was unhappy after being subbed in USA’s defeat to Canada (ESPN2)

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic was in tears on the bench after he was substituted in USA’s defeat to Canada.

The 21-year-old was brought off after just 60 minutes as the United States were beaten by Canada for the first time in 34 years in their second CONCACAF Nations League match.

After the match, USA manager Gregg Berhalter claimed that Pulisic had been suffering from ‘flu-like symptoms’ and a ‘light fever’.

But with the game at 0-0 when he was brought off, Pulisic was clearly unhappy with Berhalter’s decision.

Television replays showed Pulisic arguing with Berhalter, while the winger appeared to say: ‘I’m fine.’

Moments after that exchange, Pulisic was seen with his head in his hands and looked to be in tears.

Pulisic now returns to Chelsea where he has been struggling to win a place in Frank Lampard’s side.

The 21-year-old, who joined Chelsea for £58 million from Borussia Dortmund, has played just 10 minutes in his side’s last four Premier League matches.

Pulisic was also dropped from Lampard’s squad for their Champions League win against Lille earlier this month.

Olivier Giroud is open to leaving Chelsea in January to secure more first-team football.

The striker has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season following the emergence and form of Tammy Abraham.

Giroud is also having to compete with Michy Batshuayi for action and he has made just three Premier League appearances this season.

Despite his lack of game time, the 33-year-old has been in good form for France and he scored Monday night during his country’s 1-1 draw with Turkey.

It was Giroud’s second goal in four days after he scored the winner for France during their 1-0 win over Iceland on Friday.

The 33-year-old now wants to win his place back at Chelsea but, if he can’t, the striker is not opposed to leaving in January.

”I’m going to fight for my place at Chelsea, the coach knows it,” Giroud told reporters in France after last night’s draw with Turkey.

”After, we will make a decision in January. If you ask me if I want to leave, not necessarily. But there are things that will make…I can not settle for what I have today in Chelsea.

”I have some beautiful years in front of me. I’m 33, I still have legs and I have a body that will allow me to play a few more years. I have a healthy lifestyle and I feel good physically.

”I want to have fun and play more games. Chelsea is my priority but afterwards if in the end I am forced to make a choice, I will do it like when I left Arsenal.

”He (Frank Lampard) will almost certainly watch the matches [I just played for France]. In any case, I am going back to Chelsea pumped up.

Chelsea are eyeing a move for 19-year-old Emanuel Viganto.

The Chievo youngster has been impressing in Italy this season and appears to be attracting interest from across Europe.

Chelsea cannot currently sign players in January, due to their ongoing transfer ban – which may be lifted after their recent appeal.

But that hasn’t stopped the club eyeing potential transfer targets.

”#Chelsea in interested in Emanuel #Vignato (born in 2000),” tweeted Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

”Blues’ scout was in Italy to look him in Salernitana-Chievo two weeks ago.

”Also #BayernMunchen, #Milan and #Inter are following the young player.”

Chelsea have enjoyed a fine start to the season after being unable to bring in new players over the summer.

And former Stamford Bridge star Glen Johnson thinks Lampard’s side will get even better when they can recruit once again.

Emanuel Vignato has impressed for Chievo so far this season
(Image: Getty)

“If Chelsea can keep going as they are, they could easily break into the top four,” he told BetDaq.

“I’ve always said if Frank Lampard could get them into the top six he’s done a fantastic job and with the way United and Spurs are going, he could do even better than that.

“Everything he’s doing this season is building bridges for the next couple of years, especially as they haven’t been able to add to their squad.

“If he can keep improving his players, this Chelsea side will be in a very good spot once the new faces are able to be brought in.

“The whole transfer ban could turn out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as it’s forced the club to bring the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham through and, providing they keep going as they are, they look to have some potential stars on their hands.

“I’ve been really impressed with Abraham. I really didn’t think he could translate his form from the Championship to the Premier League, but he’s shown he’s more than up to it.

“There is such a huge difference between the two leagues, so to do what he’s done so soon into his Premier League career is very impressive.”

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho will always have a desire to return to Italy, according to his agent Joao Santos.

The 27-year-old left Napoli to follow boss Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge for £50m in 2018.

Yet he struggled for the majority of his debut season in the Premier League, failing to replicate the classy performances he so regularly produced in Serie A.

And when Sarri departed the club at the end of the campaign, Jorginho’s future in SW6 looked bleak.

(Image: REUTERS)

Fast forward four months, however, and the Brazilian-born Italian is a crucial member of predecessor Frank Lampard’s midfield – who recently named him as his vice-captain.

Jorginho is enjoying his best form since joining the Blues right now, but he may have his sights set on a return to Italy.

Santos has refused to rule out a move back to Serie A for his client, leaving the door open for another reunion with Sarri at Juventus.

“In football everything is possible, the desire to return [to Italy] is always there,” he told Radio Sportiva.

“With the experience gained in the Premier could make a great contribution to Serie A.

“He could play in the two or three teams fighting for the Scudetto.”

Jorginho was on the scoresheet for Italy in their 2-0 win over Greece on Saturday.

Santos believes the future is bright for him, insisting he can make a big impact at both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

“It’s been a positive year for him, he is doing well in the national team,” he added.

“I think Jorginho will do very well in the next European Championships, and why not also in the next World Cup?

“On the other hand, there are not so many opportunities in the national team and we always have to be ready for every game.”

Mateo Kovacic was the latest Chelsea player to pick up a knock during the international break on Sunday.

Kovacic and Chelsea team-mate Ethan Ampadu, currently on a season-long loan at RB Leipzig, lined up against each other on Sunday evening as Wales hosted Croatia in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Kovacic appeared to be fouled by Tottenham’s Ben Davies in the build-up to the Welsh opener with the midfielder limping off and failing to emerge for the second-half with Ivan Rakitic onto replace him.

And though it does not currently impact Chelsea directly, Ampadu didn’t last much longer. Three minutes into the second half, the teenager was replaced by Bristol City’s Joe Morrell, needing treatment after a challenge from behind from Bruno Petkovic.

Chelsea have already seen N’Golo Kante pick up a problem while away with his country, suffering a groin injury in the warm up before France’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Iceland on Friday.

Reece James – along with another Blues youngster in Trevor Chalobah – withdrew from the England Under-21 squad last week ahead of games against Slovenia and Austria due to “fitness concerns.”

Andreas Christensen meanwhile was forced off during Denmark’s 1-0 win over Switzerland, holding his groin as he gingerly left the pitch on Saturday.

Chelsea star Christian Pulisic must give his all on the training ground every single day if he wants to hold down a starting place.

That’s according to ex-Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Stewart Robson.

£53m new boy Pulisic has struggled to hold down a starting place under Lampard following his move from Borussia Dortmund.

The 21-year-old is yet to get on the score sheet, but has picked up a few assists in various competitions.

Having failed to find the back of the net in the first five matches he started, Lampard dropped the American to the bench.

Pulisic has only managed to play 10 minutes of football since then, with the likes of Mason Mount, Willian and Pedro all preferred on the wings instead.

With Callum Hudson-Odoi returning after the international break, things don’t look like they will get much better for Pulisic.

But Robson is confident that if the USA international outperforms his positional rivals in training, as well as capitalising on their fatigue from playing over the weekend, Pulisic can oust them from the starting line-up.

“Every day he goes into training, he’s got to be better than those two,” Robson told ESPN FC.

“When those two players, Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount, have worked hard on the Saturday and they’ve played a full game and then they come in on Monday and they can’t quite work at full pace, that’s when Pulisic has got to take the opportunity.

“He’s got to play better than them in training, he’s got to run harder, he’s got to go past people with the ball, he’s got to make things happen and then have a little look over to Frank Lampard and say ‘I’m ready’.

“He’s got to do that week in, week out, day in, day out to prove he’s as good if not better than those players we are talking about.

“He’s a young player, yes, but he’s got to prove that he’s better than those two players that Frank Lampard at the moment is preferring.”

Chelsea return from international break to face Newcastle next Saturday.

Fikayo Tomori was alerted to England's coaches after shackling Marcus Rashford while he was captain for Canada's Under-20s

England’s coaches were alerted to Fikayo Tomori after shackling Marcus Rashford while he was captain for Canada’s under-20s

The fact Fikayo Tomori first played for Canada rather than England remains a mystery to the coaches who handed him his international debut.

The 21-year-old Chelsea centre-back, who was born in Calgary and is also eligible for Nigeria through his parents, could make his senior England debut against Bulgaria on Monday.

But it wasn’t until he shackled Marcus Rashford playing against England in an under-20s game three years ago that he alerted English coaches to his potential.

At the time, 18-year-old Rashford was hot property. A week before the game at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium in March 2016, he scored the winner in the Manchester derby and the previous month scored twice on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

But against Tomori, who had been schooled at Chelsea after moving to England as a toddler, Rashford remained goalless – his only England debut where he failed to find the net – and Canada won 2-1.

After that display, England realised their oversight and Tomori never played for Canada again. An Under-20 World Cup winner’s medal soon followed with England, but the reason he was even playing international football on that grey day in South Yorkshire was down to former Canada under-20s coach Rob Gale.

Five months earlier, he handed the-then 18-year-old Tomori an international debut to remember, more than 5,000 miles away in Mexico City. No wonder a game against an in-form Manchester United striker forward was straightforward in comparison.

”At the time, it was a mystery to Chelsea’s youth coach Joe Edwards [now the club’s first-team coach] that he had been overlooked by England,” says Gale, who likens Tomori to former England and Nottingham Forest defender Des Walker.

”Joe welcomed the fact that me and my colleagues at the Canadian Soccer Association had looked into it and after telling him about what we could offer, we eventually brought him over to our camp in Mexico for two games.

”Fikayo felt it would be a good first taste of international football.”

It proved a prescient judgement.

”The games were at altitude, the temperature in November was 25C to 30C, and Mexico are a powerhouse of our football region,” says Gale, who now coaches Winnipeg-based team Valour FC.

”Fikayo flew into Mexico City at about 11pm, having travelled all day, and over supper we had our first face-to-face meeting.

”He had four days to get over his jet-lag, and then he made his international debut. Although he played a little safe, he did well, and we were unlucky to lose the game 2-1 having had a man sent off early on.

”But in the second game, we ended up drawing 1-1, with Fikayo scoring that day so it was a great little camp for him.

”Straight away you could see he was eager to learn, had a great self-awareness and was a very level-headed kid.”

Tomori’s debt to Lampard and breaking Costa’s nose

Although Tomori was relatively slow to come into view, having also spent loan spells at Brighton and Hull City, his breakthrough came in another loan spell, at Derby County last season, where he benefited from regular starts in central defence.

Under the tutelage of now Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard, the 21-year-old was voted player of year and helped Derby reach the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

He also began to use his ”incredible speed” according to former Hull team-mate Michael Dawson and showed his desire for ”proper defending” by leading the division for tackles made by central defenders.

Lampard, who told Tomori about his England call-up after the Champions League win over Lille, describes the youngster as his ”project” player and has praised his work ethic. ”Every day, he is nailed on,” the manager says.

That might also include a training ground incident while still at school where Tomori accidentally broke former Chelsea striker Diego Costa’s nose and lived to tell the tale.

Since then, he has played every game following his full debut in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on 31 August, seemingly justifying Lampard’s decision to let David Luiz join Arsenal in the transfer window.

Speaking at his first England press conference last week, Tomori said he owed Lampard ”a great deal” for placing faith in him, much as England and Chelsea team-mates Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount have also benefited from the Lampard’s support.

But the defender comes across as a slightly different character to his team-mates after saying he was just as likely to continue his Open University studies for a business management degree while away on England duty as he is to join his pals in their room playing Fortnite or Fifa on a games console.

”Football is not going to go on forever,” Tomori said. ”Whenever I retire, or if I get an injury I have something I’m working towards that can stand me in good stead for the future. I spend about eight to 10 hours a week, reading all the time, trying to learn new things.”

A ’quiet’ leader in the Des Walker mould

It was interesting to note that his current reading is about ”leadership in business” for, while Lampard has spoken about how Tomori can be ”quiet”, Gale says he stepped up when he made him captain for the surprise 2-1 win over England back when he had Rashford in his pocket.

Prior to the game, Tomori used his knowledge of the England players to help settle the nerves of his team-mates, who were on average three years older than their Canadian opponents, according to Gale.

”Fikayo was saying, ’look I’ve played against these guys before, they are the same as you guys, just regular young lads, trying to make their trade so don’t give them too much respect’,” he says.

”It hasn’t been the easiest road for him and he hasn’t always been touted as the star man, but every challenge in front of him, he’s risen to the occasion.

”He’s a first-class person, first and foremost, he’s humble and hardworking and if you’re like that, you’ve got a chance to make it at the highest level, but he likes to defend and reminds me a little of Des Walker.

”He is a difficult defender to play against and you need that in the modern game. You see all these defenders now and half the time it’s about what they can do on the ball, but we’ve lost the art of defending and that’s what he’s good at.”

Dawson, who played with Walker at the start of his Nottingham Forest career, says he can see the likeness between the two defenders and says Tomori’s pace and familiarity with team-mates will help him adapt to international football.

”It’s a bit of a surprise how quickly he’s made it into the England squad,” Dawson says. ”But he’s taken his opportunity with Chelsea and Gareth is breeding a young group who play with no fear.”

There has been little sign that life in the Premier League has fazed Tomori, who is in the top 10 for top speeds, interceptions and tackles among top-flight central defenders this season despite only playing five of Chelsea’s eight games.

And after England’s shaky display in the 2-1 defeat by Czech Republic on Friday, Tomori’s arrival may be just what Southgate’s team need.

If he makes his debut on Monday, there will be no sour grapes for Gale, who describes himself as an England fan. His only disappointment was with England’s coaches, who did not approach him directly to say they wanted to recruit the youngster.

”It was a bit cloak-and-dagger, but I’m pleased his development has continued since that day,” says Gale, who played for Fulham in his youth and is the brother-in-law of former under-17s manager John Peacock.

”At the time, what I knew was he would be very good for Canada, knew he was a great kid and knew he had ability because he was at Chelsea and I trusted the coaches there.

”We were happy to take that leap of faith, and we hoped he would like that experience and want to continue with us, which he did to be fair.

”He still stays in touch with myself and the national team manager to this day, so that speaks volumes of him.”

Frank Lampard has made a stellar start to his managerial career, firstly at Derby and now at Chelsea too.

But Lampard’s former Blues team-mate John Obi-Mikel thought John Terry was the more likely to make the leap from playing to management first.

Terry is currently assistant head coach to Dean Smith at Aston Villa, having joined the Midlands club as a player in 2017.

Whether he ends up as No.1 at another club or Chelsea remains to be seen, but Obi Mikel believes his leadership qualities will stand him in good stead once he steps up.

“I am very happy for Frank,” Mikel told 61 Saat .

”When we were playing at Chelsea, we are expecting that John Terry and he would be very good managers, but we were expecting Terry to reach that level first. But Lampard made a big step.

“His arrival at Chelsea means the club are caring for their legends. I joked with him after the Chelsea move, I want to be his assistant when I retire.

”I hope he will be successful at Chelsea for many more years. I also want to see John Terry in similar jobs in the future because he was our leader on the pitch.”

Lampard has given a chance to a number of the club’s academy graduates this season, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all making huge strides.

And Chelsea fan and former Blues defender Jason Cundy says he is more excited about his club now than he can remember.

“We have a group of youngsters right now that are going to be in and around Chelsea’s first XI for many years to come and it’s an exciting time for a Chelsea fan, really exciting,” he told talkSPORT.

“For years people have slaughtered Chelsea and they’ve been hammering us about ‘oh, you’re not bringing players through, and the ones you do you send out on loan’.

“Right now, there is not a Chelsea fan out there that doesn’t have genuine hope, genuine belief that this could be a special bunch of players.”

“I think that will be interesting. He has an amazing future. I think everyone thinks that.”

Mount is set to make Gareth Southgate’s starting XI against the Czech Republic this evening after James Maddison withdrew from the squad with an illness, and his international boss has praised him for his recent displays at club level.

Southgate said when asked what he made of the prospect: “Exactly what I thought of him when I saw him at 16 playing for our U16s.

”He’s a quality player, an intelligent footballer, presses well, has a real eye for goal, good quality.
